I went to a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant.

May 6, 2023 Saturday morning is off to a rainy start. Today is the day to say goodbye as families leave for their respective places. Yesterday, my children and I went to the museum to visit the exhibition of Fumio Yamamoto.

The public parking lot attached to the museum was quite crowded, so we parked the car in the parking lot of a nearby large hospital and entered.

We went to see the exhibition at my child’s request, but it had been a long time since I had seen art.

He is closely related to Studio Ghibli and painted its backgrounds. He has been involved in many well-known animations such as Conan the Future Boy, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Lupin the Third, Jarinko Chie, Princess Mononoke, and many more.

It was a healing moment for me to appreciate the breathtakingly realistic depictions of the sky, clouds, natural scenery, buildings, and fantastical things, all expressed with a delicate touch.

I sometimes felt that it would be difficult for me to paint such detailed and delicate pictures. I was reminded of the importance of finding what one is suited for and continuing to direct one’s efforts toward it.

After the art appreciation, we bought lamb, cabbage, and shiitake mushrooms at Max Value and went home to make yakisoba. The lamb yakisoba was quite tasty.

In the evening, we all went to Nemuro Hanamaru, a revolving sushi restaurant. (See the link at the bottom for a video from a few years ago.)

We arrived at the restaurant at 4:45 p.m., as it was the middle of Golden Week, and there was a long line of people waiting to take out and eat in. I wrote down my name on the waiting list and adjusted my time while mingling with tourists around the station.

I was relieved to see the area around the station bustling with tourists and back to its original state. The facility in front of the station that was built just before Corona was also bustling with stores. High quality local seaweed was being sold for 5,000 to 10,000 yen. I am sure it is very tasty. I would like to have some for a celebration of my independence? I would like to have it as a celebration of my coming independence. (That’s a long time away, though…).

In the meantime, my turn finally came around at Nemuro Hanamaru, where I had written my name, and I went inside the restaurant. It was around 18:00 and we had to wait for about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

There were not enough waitstaff for the number of customers, which seemed to be one of the reasons for the long wait. Everyone seemed busy working. Well, it would be a problem if they looked bored at this time of the year, wouldn’t it?

We enjoyed our last day of the restaurant, which included two layers of scallops, seared engawa, shime saba, torotaku, hokki, and other dishes.
